Tommy Lee Jones seeks $10M in 'No Country' lawsuit

SAN ANTONIO (AP) Tommy Lee Jones is suing the makers of "No Country for Old Men" for more than $10 million that the Oscar-winning actor claims he is owed for starring in the 2007 hit crime thriller.

The lawsuit against Paramount Pictures claims that Jones was promised "significant box-office bonuses" and other compensation depending on the success of the film, which went on to make more than $160 million.

The movie, which is set in Texas and based on a critically acclaimed Cormac McCarthy novel, garnered four Academy Awards, including "Best Picture."

'Bangkok Dangerous' reaches No. 1 in slow weekend

The Nicolas Cage action-thriller "Bangkok Dangerous" needed just $7.8 million to take the top spot at the box office in what was the slowest movie weekend in seven years, according to studio estimates released Sunday.

The total weekend box office gross was expected to reach just $66 million, the lowest figure since the $59.5 million reported for the weekend of Sept. 21, 2001, according to Media by Numbers.

Coen brothers to begin shooting new film in Minn

Oscar-winning Coen brothers are returning to their home state of Minnesota to shoot their next movie.

Joel and Ethan Coen (pronounced cone) are scheduled on Monday to start shooting "A Serious Man" in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. The movie, about a professor whose life is falling apart, is set in 1967 in an unspecified suburb similar to St. Louis Park, where the Coens grew up.

It's the first time the Coens have filmed in Minnesota since 1996's "Fargo," which won Oscars for screenplay and best actress, Frances McDormand. The brothers won this year's best picture Oscar for "No Country for Old Men."

A jury should decide whether silent film star Mary Pickford signed away rights to sell two Oscars she was awarded, a judge ruled Monday.

Toronto film festival lacking Oscar sheen

This year, Oscar didn't come to Toronto. Since the Academy Awards calendar was shortened in 2003, this fall film festival has typically served to separate contenders from pretenders.

Victims in NJ house fire were shot

Sarandon and Dreyfuss join Norton in comedy-thriller

Susan Sarandon and Richard Dreyfuss have signed on to join Edward Norton in "Leaves of Grass," a comedic thriller from actor-turned-filmmaker Tim Blake Nelson.

Norton is portraying twin brothers, one an Ivy League philosophy professor and the other a brilliant small-time marijuana grower. The professor is lured back to his Oklahoma hometown for a doomed scheme against a local drug lord (Dreyfuss) that unravels his life.

Sarandon plays the brothers' eccentric mother. Keri Russell is in negotiations to a love interest.

Nelson is playing a best friend to one of the brothers. Country singer Steve Earle and Lucy DeVito, daughter of Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman, also are in the cast.

Shooting is scheduled to begin September 22 in Shreveport, La.
