Dragon performs a microphone check during setup. When our volume was too low on the Windows Vista laptop, we couldn't use the software. Somehow reading our frustrated mind, it typed "I hate you I" when we said, "Type. Type!" Saying "crazy" got spelled out as "greasy." Then "greasy," spoken, translated to "leafy," then "greens fee," then "Greenstein." In fact, the included headset didn't deliver adequate voice quality to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 at all. We reverted to the same headset packaged with Dragon 9, with better results.

Training is optional, but we recommend stepping through its paces to get Dragon up to speed with your speech patterns. Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 can also scan the documents and e-mails on your computer to look for commonly used words.

New to this update is support for accents which include, oddly enough, Teen English alongside American, Australian, Southern Asian, British, Dutch, French, German, Italian, and Spanish accents. And there's improved QuickVoice formatting. For instance, now you can utter the command, "Underline The Grapes of Wrath" to underline the book's title, which took two steps with previous versions.

In addition, Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 introduces Voice Shortcuts that enable you to look things up online quickly in your default browser. Tell Dragon to "search YouTube for Martin Luther King's 'I Have a Dream Speech,'" and relevant results appear on YouTube. The same applies for Wikipedia, eBay, and Amazon. Dragon10 is also built to search within Windows Vista folders and in Google Desktop.

This application supports commands in Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect, Microsoft Outlook Express, Internet Explorer, and AOL. Using Dragon with the Google Docs online word processor was trickier in our tests than with Microsoft Word 2003 or 2007. People with disabilities can mostly drop the mouse and the keyboard, asking Dragon to do the work for them. But if you have the choice, we still prefer manual controls to the tedious attempts at using Dragon to cut and paste chunks of text within a long document.

The more you use Dragon, correcting its errors and adding your own lingo to its vocabulary, the better it gets. It already recognizes everything from "a cappella" to "smiley-face" to "ZZ Top." Abbreviations and tech slang work, too; speaking "dot ASP" spells ".ASP" and saying "smiley-face" will spell out this character: :-) Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 has the intelligence to detect words within context. For example, it knows to type "eating a carrot" instead of "eating a karat."

You don't need to speak like a robot into the mic, although enunciating helps. If you tend to mumble, then act as if you're reading a book to a child or a teleprompter for a newscast when using Dragon. Out of the box, the application does very well with long, polysyllabic words. But we've found it difficult for Dragon versions 8, 9, and 10 to distinguish between short words with similar vowel sounds, such as "a," "the," and "of."

You can plug in a variety of voice recorders for Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 to transcribe your own voice. The application supports MP3, WAV, and WMA audio files. You can create a profile of your voice for a mobile recording device, such as a Pocket PC handheld. After you record your thoughts on the go, you can feed Dragon that sound file later for transcription.

Unfortunately, the Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 license is only good for one user. To the woe of journalists and college students, Dragon won't transcribe your recording of, say, an interview subject or a college professor.

Will Sasso, of "Mad TV," will lead the cast of National Lampoon's next in-house production, a spoof of sword-and-sandal flicks such as "Gladiator," "300" and "Troy."

Antivirus Scam Is Popping Up on Computers

As the WLTX station coordinator, Kecia Harley is bombarded by phone calls and email.

Harley said, "I got one email I was trying to delete and for some strange reason, things started loading on my computer."

So now, when Kecia tries to use her computer, a certain screen appears. Kecia said, "It tells me a problem has been detected and Windows shut down." Our station webmaster, Jason Baldwin, says he's not completely sure what virus or spyware made Kecia's computer crash, but she may have fallen victim to the XP Antivirus 2009 scam.

Baldwin said, "They can show up over email and you can go to a normal website and it takes you over and says you've got spyware and you've got viruses."

Baldwin says a computer screen comes up saying that your PC is infected.

From there, he says the screen will appear as if it is scanning your hard drive for viruses.

Baldwin said, "Although it looks like it's going through the computer, it's not doing anything. It's just an animated graphic."

He says at that time, users should just shut their computer down. He says the antivirus gives the computer a virus. In fact, the computer does just the opposite of what you think.

Baldwin says there are reputable antivirus program you can install like Ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy.

You can also call a computer expert or technician to help you fix the problem.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0's proactive protection achieves the highest certification in the latest AV-Comparatives tests

Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces that Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 has demonstrated the highest level of reliability and effectiveness of its proactive protection system in a series of tests conducted by AV-Comparatives.org, a respected Austrian antivirus lab. Based on the results, Kaspersky Anti-Virus was awarded the highest certification: Advanced+.

"New malicious programs and viruses appear every day and it is evident that antivirus database updates, even hourly, are not enough to provide users with reliable protection from possible Internet threats. There is always a time "gap" between the appearance of a new threat and the release of an update. So to provide effective antivirus protection it is important to effectively detect new threats," says the head of the AV-Comparatives lab Andreas Clementy.

AV-Comparatives conducted a series of tests in order to compare the effectiveness of various antivirus solutions' on-demand detection of malicious programs (by the program scanner). This method makes it possible to estimate the effectiveness of the heuristic analyzer, one of the components of the proactive protection system. The testing included 17 antivirus products for home users with antivirus databases that were dated August 5, 2007. The sample of malicious programs used in the tests appeared after this date.

Based on the results, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 was awarded the highest certification-Advanced+, which confirms the program has the highest level of detection of new malicious programs with minimal false positives using the antivirus program's heuristic analyzer. It should be noted that only 1 other products tested was awarded this certification.

"Kaspersky Lab developed and introduced a new heuristic analyzer in it's version 7.0 home user products in the summer of this year. In June 2007 this new module first participated in AV-Comparatives' testing and immediately received the Advanced+ certificate," says Deputy Director of the Innovation Technologies Nikolay Grebennikov. "This is a long-awaited and very significant assessment of Kaspersky Lab's work."

The heuristic analyzer is only one of the components of the proactive protection module included in Kaspersky Lab products. Contrary to most competitors' products, Kaspersky Lab products provide additional protection: a behavior blocker, which blocks the activity of malicious programs based on their behavior. The effectiveness of this module was also tested by AV-Comparatives in June 2007, with the test developers commenting: "The results of the tests performed with the randomly chosen malicious programs have confirmed the highest protection level and the effectiveness of the behavior blocker, which is awarded the Proactive Protection Award of the AV-Comparatives test laboratory."

Season 3 picked up with Jack, Sawyer and Kate in captivity with the Others. More is revealed about them and their purpose on the Island and how they got there, specifically their leader Ben who has a tenuous connection to the Island, as well as Juliet, originally Jack s captor, but eventually reveals her agenda is doesn t line up as closely with her comrades. The season closes with the Survivors potentially on the verge of rescue, Ben having lost control of his people and the island and back in captivity with Jack, Juliet joining the ranks of the crash survivors and a mysterious glimpse into the possible future of Jack and Kate and perhaps the other survivors as well. Season 4 begins with the arrival of a freighter. There is division amongst the islanders - the people who want to meet the rescuers, led by Jack and Kate, and the people who want to heed Charlie s warning and stay away from them, led by Locke. Four new people arrive on the island, but rescuing the passengers of Flight 815 is not their primary objective.

Editor's Review - My Internet TV

As the name suggests, 'My Internet TV' is an internet TV player which uses the Windows Media Player engine. The list of TV channels includes hundreds of stations from all around the world.


There are three viewing mode, including full screen, you can add channels to a list of favorites and you can search for channels.


Among its features, I was able to spot a very interesting one. A preview window in which you can preview a channel while you are already watching one on its main player. This works as a PIP (picture in picture) feature on a regular TV set.

Pluses:

Drawbacks / flaws: Many channels aren't working. There's no option for updating the list neither of channels nor to manually add channels.

In conclusion: I believe this program still needs some improvement in order to become a competitive Internet TV player.
